When godwits fly

I'm winging my way south for the winter, like the lovely Godwits that nest at Parapara beach in Golden Bay. Right now I'm sitting in the lobby of a cheap hotel in Dubai (a city where a cheap hotel is hard to come by!) waiting for the Commander to arrive. I came on a morning flight and have had time to get a manicure and pedicure, buy some delicious healthy treats at the supermarket and soak in a lovely bath reading my book for an hour or so. I've got my glow back on and I'm ready for a little summer break in Aoteroa/ New Zealand. The Commander was working in Kabul this morning and is flying in on an afternoon flight. I'm expecting him any minute and hope we'll go out for a lovely dinner by Dubai Creek, or to a movie. For the next two weeks I'll be introducing him to my friends, family and homeland. I'm hoping the sun will come out and New Zealand will show itself off at its summery best. But even if it rains everyday we know that we'll have a wonderful time. If the weather won't cooperate with beach plans then we'll sit in cafes and eat dinner in seaside pubs. We'll go for long walks and visit Hobbiton and celebrate my niece's fifth birthday. I won't have much opportunity to write here or to visit any other blogs for the next two weeks, so I'll be looking forward to catching up on your adventures, creations and wise words when I get back. Love, Frida

I'm glad you're enjoying Dubai (and yes, are there any reasonably-priced hotels left there?). You sound like me when arriving in Frankfurt or London or Amsterdam after having been in the Middle East for too long - first thing I'd do was have a little pampering! Hope you have a fantastic time in New Zealand - enjoy every minute and be good to yourself! You deserve it. xo

Hi Frida! You are probably nice and warm about now ... and let me tell you - my toes are freezing!

So apt that I thought of you obviously. Hope you are having a lovely time.

Hello Frida!
This is my first time here...I found you by sheer chance but have not been able to leave...your writing has left me spellbound. After growing up in India and Pakistan, so many things you write about feel familiar and wonderful- it is like finding an old friend.

I hope you're having a wonderful time away and enjoying the pampering..you deserve it.

And yes, your 'Good bye' post was stunning..the most heartfelt thing I can remember reading in so long. I love your writing and I'll be back. I'm going to link to you, I hope that's ok.

Looking forward to your return....

Frida,
I wanted to let you know that I copied and pasted your disclaimer, made some minor changes and added it to my blog. I hope that you do not mind. I too want my blog to reflect my personal opinions and want people to recognize that they are not necessarily those of the agency where I work. Seeing that you are a lawyer, I figured that you knew how to words things.
Thanks but let me know if this is a problem.
