A blessing for the New Year
I received a comment on my blog from a woman who seems to understand some of the challenges I'm facing here in Afghanistan, and while exploring her blog I found this inspiring post
and this wonderful Fransican blessing:
May God bless you with discomfort
At easy answers, half-truths, and superficial relationships
So that you may live deep within your heart
May God bless you with anger
At injustice, oppression and exploitation of people,
So that you may work for justice, freedom and peace
May God bless you with tears
To shed for those who suffer pain, rejection, hunger and war,
So that you may reach out your hand to comfort them and
Turn their pain into joy
And may God bless you with enough foolishness
To believe that you can make a difference in the world
So that you can do what others claim cannot be done
To bring justice and kindness to all our children and the poor.

Frida,
I am so glad you like the benediction. Today I opened a Christmas card from one of my oldest friends who works in inner city missions and amazingly she had cut it out and pasted inside every card. It seemed it pretty summed up her feelings right now. I just happened to be ready Phillip Yancey's book about prayer (something that has always mystified me) and came across it. May it give you strength to endure.
Do you mind if I link your blog into my 'links' area. I just discovered how to do it yesterday and your story is amazing.
Take care,
Stefanie
Those are such inspiring words!
